I haven’t shared a whole lot about my RL here. Okay, so I haven’t shared much here because I’m a blog-slacker. Still, my initial posting plan contained only SL ideas. However, as time goes on and new plans and ideas arrive, that SL RL line gets a little weak now and then. All that to say, in RL, last night, I thought I was moving to the UK. Okay, not really, but sorta. Go with me here, would ya?
Man is an old car, history kinda guy. He spent some time yesterday on youtube watching train wrecks, which somehow led to war relics or something. I don’t really know. I was busy off doing my own thing which did not include old cars and war stuff.
Anyhow, a few days ago he said something about going to Europe so he can see something or another (history again). I said sure. So, yesterday he was telling me about something or another he found on youtube. I did the “guy thing” and inserted the proper fake interest (hey! that can too go both ways!). At some point I began listening just long enough to catch “German”, then my mind went off again… I know someone in Germany!! Then later I said something about moving to the UK and he was for it with ideas of traveling off to who knows where for whatever relic purpose.
Then it happened.
We watched District 9.
See, he had watched it the night before and I had asked about the language. (I don’t like to watch movies where 80% of the words are 4 letters and begin with F. You know what I mean so stop saying Ford, Four, Foul, Food…) He said it was fine. And that it (gore) wasn’t too bad. So, I watched it as did one of the monsters.
Well, let me just say that there are definitely gross parts. I think I’ll just leave THAT as said.
More importantly, it did not take long before I was giving him “the look”. I mean, in real life, not in text, the look. I waited to see if it was just that scene. It was not. “I thought you said the language was not bad.” His reply “I didn’t think it was…” Again the look. And again. “Can you understand them? Do you not hear this?” …. “Oh, I think I’m starting to…”
It turns out the accent was too thick for him (but monster and I picked it right up) and he didn’t realize that F was said about a gazillion times (no, i didn’t count) and it was seen in the subtext.
So, even though the movie was set in S. Africa, the accent is close enough to cause concern. So, now, the move to the UK is off. Ah well, it was a nice dream.
I’ll still work on getting our passports though. Like said, monster and I understood the accent right away…

HAHAHA! Not moving all because of one little word problem, well i never! In any case, the UK sucks so you aren’t missing too much!
Not one little word problem, but rather because of Man’s inability to understand accents. I can get a squirt gun and fill it with soapy water AND bring my demerit book. *nods and smiles sweetly*
But have you considered that perhaps the majority of accents here are understandable, so that doesn’ really make that a major issue!
i think they have a lot of the white stuff over there *nods*
Do you mean Mozzarella cheese? Or maybe milk?
OMG!!! you actually BLOGGED!!! I say you and the monsters move in with Reeko since he’s moving to live with Jesca and send the Man to Ivana for immersion lessons in the language! It works, right?
Hmm. That’s a thought, but since they are getting married and all, I’m sure they don’t want -me- around. So, maybe I could send Man to Reeko and Jesca instead! Then Mosnters and I can go visit Ivana. After all, he’s not far from some other friends I have over there. And maybe Reeko likes to talk about history stuff?
